Abstract

The subject of this article is an officially registered mosque in the village of Dereli in Kepsut, Balıkesir. The aim of this study is as follows: to take photographs of the parts of the mosque which have been identified as necessary and to draw 1/50 scale projects of the mosque in order to certify its present situation to decide on the most appropriate restoration principles, to provide the mosque’s continuous protection with certified registration and restoration projects as this cultural heritage is an invaluable document in illuminating us and future generations about the period of its times. In the research which will direct restoration, firstly the mosque is compared with the other mosques that were built in the same period, the most appropriate restoration principles are established and finally 1/50 scale restoration projects are prepared and these projects are presented to the protection institution to be certified. The mosque’s architectural characteristics and its building date (1890) show that it is a 19th century period building. It is a building that sheds light on the society’s social and economic situations, and clarifies its architectural characteristics and wood crafts. The mosque has two floors; on the first floor there is a hall and a guest room, and on the second there is a section for women and a guest room.
